Jennifer Answorth

By Mildred Hernandez

Jennifer Answorth begins with the murder of Jack Answorth. Jennifer takes the gun in her hands and with the memory of twenty-five years of abuse and the death of her unborn child fueling her anger; she pulls the trigger and Jack Answorth lay dead on their bedroom floor. In fear of reprisal Jennifer flees her house of torture. For five long years she remains on the run from the law and the charge of murder, until she finally settles in a women’s shelter in Chicago. There she befriends another abused woman, Maryellen and they strike up a lasting friendship. Mary like Jennifer is broken and through their friendship they both find healing, finding hope in new love relationships for both women, with the kind of men who will cherish them and heal their abusive souls.

Through her newfound faith Jennifer decides to return to Hillsboro Texas to face the charge of murder. There she will have to go before the Grand Jury. Medical problems surface there as well. Evil has surrounded her for most of her adult years and now she will come to the final reckoning of her life, but she will not be alone—loved ones will join her and God will be standing by her side, as demonic forces do their best to bring her life to an end.

Jennifer Answorth is a story that will bring tears to your eyes and anger will fill your heart for the men who have tormented these two women. I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading the continuation of Jennifer’s saga. Mildred Hernandez has in my opinion shown in her writing the evils of abuse. Some depictions are hard to read, but reveal to the reader the pain and torture that many women endure at the hands of their abuser. I recommend this book.

JENNIFER ANSWORTH

In honor of Mildred Hernandez

Jennifer Answorth took a life

Once his loving devoted wife

Abused and beaten was her fate

Married to a man who knew only hate

Twenty-five years living with pain

She broke her chains and Jack was slain

She runs from the law scared and alone

Hiding in alleyways blending into the stone

From shelter to shelter afraid to make friends

Often praying her flight comes to an end

A new friend found in the voice of confusion

Maryellen’s mind is healed giving up the illusion

Love comes again without the pain

A heart being healed from hate's disgusting stain

Go back home to clear her name

To begin again, a new life tame

Jack's brother wants to do her harm

She is protected from his strong arm

Thank you Millie for thrilling my mind from afar

Jennifer Answorth deserves Five Stars

(Two of the lines at the bottom of the poem were intentionally left out, due to the fact that it gives away the outcome of Jennifer's fate, and the ending of the book.)

Author's Response

This is the first time I have ever had a book of mine basically summarized in poetry form.  Nancy Shrader has done an excellent job of doing just that, and indeed I feel extremely honored.

REVIEW

By Wendy

I must say that you are a strong writer.  You have a style that allows the reader to become friends with each character.  They all take on the persona of being part of your extended family.  The story line you've chosen to follow is sensitive and emotional.  You take steps to meet it head on, not trying to do a soft shoe dance around the subject.  That in itself is a hard road to follow.  You allow the reader to glimpse through the window of a strangers life, and see what those cries and screams are all about.

Problem is, most people are afraid to look through those windows, most people want to cover their ears, not be involved.  But you allow the reader to get comfortable with Jennifer before you introduce the abuse.  That was a smart move; otherwise I think you might loose a few readers along the way.  Many people are not comfortable with reading about this type of life, as it touches to close to home.  I think that you might have allowed them a reason to continue to move forward through the pain along with Jennifer as she climbs through the darkness and into the light.

You allow the reader to see a light at the end of a tunnel.  You show them the rainbow that leads to the pot of gold.  You praise God and Jesus and show that he can make a difference in our lives.  This too could be a risky move, unless you are looking to market it in a Christian Book store, and that wouldn't be a bad idea......it really would be a market place where your book, your story would shine in a new arena.  It would stand on its own.  The story introduces the darker side of life, while all the while encouraging the reader to move towards the light… to reach out and help your fellow man or woman in this case.

I enjoyed the book.  It was definitely not your common easy read book.  It's for the brave of heart.  You did a great job, introducing a subject that many wouldn't want to tackle.  It is the total opposite of mine, yet they are the same, strange isn't it, they are both about family and facing those issues head on.  I used humor, you used in your face.

5 stars to you girlfriend.

Oh mom, you've outdone yourself again, God is good. And once again, He has shown you much "favor". This book is incredible and I'm always telling people about the book and the characters in the book as if they are suppose to know what I'm talking about. And that's just how realistic you have made this book and all the characters in it. It's like I should be able to get in my car go for a short drive somewhere, look in my reerview mirror and then in the back window, stretches the place that started it all....Rolling Hills. I love you mom. Stay encouraged and Always take God with you. You're going to be amazed where your books are going to be...hopefully all over the world. And there are going to be people looking for that same feeling, desire, hope...love...A place called Rolling Hills. Love, your daughter Melissa.

“UPSIDE OVER”

Review by Mildred Hernandez

Millie’s Literary Corner

I am definitely not a comedy book reader!  However, Wanita Cox's book entitled, "Upside Over" is one of the most humorous, exciting, and entertaining books I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading!  When I began reading the book, I was laughing my head off with the humorous manner in which she shared her family’s life experiences and exciting events.  However, by the time I finished the book, I was taking notes on the invaluable advice she was offering to her readers!  The reading of her book has indeed helped me to see and realize that no matter how bad things may appear to be in life, one can still find the humor in it, if they look hard enough for it!

I recommend the reading of this book very highly!  It will definitely brighten your days and put a grin on your face!

“THE CURSE OF MAYWEATHER HOUSE”

Author:  Nancy Shrader

Indeed love extends beyond death and the grave…and sadly, so do curses! This fact is depicted and confirmed by Nancy Lee Shrader, in her exciting book of the “The Curse of Mayweather House”!

The extraordinary strong and unbreakable love of Leora and William, and their strong determination to break the curse which has been put on the Mayweather House, as well as on themselves, brings them back in spirit form to seek out the help of the living! At the same time, however, they must battle the attacks of the dead and envious demonic enemies, who are just as determined to prevent them from being successful with their endeavors!

The magnificent and outstanding love that existed between Leora and William is truly one that many will only dream of ever sharing! I enjoyed, tremendously, reading Nancy Shrader’s book of “The Curse of Mayweather House”, which is filled with genres such as thriller, love, horror, and drama, and indeed I look forward to reading the following books of her series, to find out the outcome and fate of the beautiful lovers, Leora and William, and their family and love ones. If you like books which constantly links ancient times and events with the present, then you’ll love “The Curse of Mayweather House”, and I would highly recommend you read it!

AN ANGEL KISSED BY GOD

An Autism Recovery Story

Author:  Judy Moll

The book, “AN ANGEL KISSED BY GOD, An Autism Recovery Story, is an outstanding book which is filled with extremely helpful facts about autism!  It is also a book which demonstrates the undying and unconditional love, care, and concern of a mother for her autism child; and the strong determination the mother in this book, Judy Ann had, who never gave up on trying to fine help for her autism child, and providing for him the very best life that was in her power to give to him!  The book is an overwhelmingly emotional depiction of what Judy Ann and her darling angel of a son, Anthony experienced, during their trials and tribulations of fighting to master the infliction!  Judy Ann is an exceptionally great example for all mothers or caregivers who are raising and caring for an autism child; and she is also a great author, who wanted to put her experiences down in writing to share with others!  It is a book that I would definitely recommend for anyone who may be faced with dealing with this particular problem or anyone seeking information about the infliction of Autism!

SPANISH WATERS

Author Barbara Korsness

Spanish Waters is indeed an exciting swash buckler read that’s filled with action from the beginning to the end!  With ferocious battles being fought on land and sea between countries determined to claim the same land as their own, the brave and daring characters of this thrilling book still find time for romance.

Right in the midst of the clashing swords, the firing pistols, and the flying cannon balls was the very beautiful and very tom boyish Catana, the main female character of the book, fighting right along side her male companions! Her beauty however was kept under wrap with her dressing like that of a young boy; nevertheless, it had nothing to do with the love she held within her heart for a man whom some feared while others reverenced.

I highly recommend this book to all readers who seek action, adventure, and romance; for indeed that is what Barbara Korsness has captured in this wonderful book, and now offers to her readers.

Into the Distance

Author, Curtis Simonson

Curtis’ imagination as a child was in itself powerful enough to drag the reader into its own fascination!  One will also find it hard to determine which is the most interesting story, the one he tells of his experiences in Iraq or his experiences at home in Colorado.  The book brings the horrific Iraq war up close and personal, and puts you mentally right there in the desert with the soldiers.  You will also experience the same feelings about beautiful settings in Colorado.

It is a fast reading action book that at one moment will have every nerve in your body grinding, when you find yourself in a dentist’s chair in the middle of the night, in Kuwait with a pounding and throbbing tooth ache; and the next moment you’re back in Colorado staring into the eyes of a ferocious looking bear!

The book is also filled with great advice, and one of my favorites was, “Let not your desires cloud the truth and keep you from a life of pure joy and happiness when the truth itself can set you free”.

I highly recommend this book for it is truly a great entertaining page turner!
